Changing your web hosting provider
09.11.2011
The decision to change a web hosting provider is influenced by numerous reasons including lack of technical support, software incompatibility, availability of other cheaper hosting packages and much more. Regardless the reasons behind the decision, the webmasters may carefully adopt the following procedures to make sure of the seamless transfer.
Backup your site by downloading all files, including scripts, images and web pages from the existing hosting server using the FTP or other publisher software like Dreamweaver, FrontPageand, etc. Get the primary and secondary name server details from the current host provider or using a whois tool. You may also need to get the name server details of the new hosting space provider to make the correct references. Submit the form for name server changes with your domain registrar. It may take 24-48 hours to apply the changes in the whois records. Upload the site into the new hosting server and check for the proper functioning of the website. Suspend the hosting account from the previous provider. If the existing hosting provider happens to be the domain registrar too, it would be better to transfer the domain registration to the new web host. This will facilitate you to communicate with a single service provider for all kinds of website-related issues.
